DID YOU KNOW...

1. The Learning Station employees wanted to remind all retirees that they can use this facility. They have computer classes and internet access and many other things available to our retirees.

2. Please make sure you know the dates for our upcoming retirees monthly meetings. It is always the second Thursday of each month and the date for the next one is September 9th. The meeting starts at noon and the catered meal is served right after the meeting. We are talking about having Bingo and some very minor problems are to be worked out before we can start.

3. Please make sure that you are registered to vote. This is a very important election coming up and we must do all we can to make a positive change in the White House..

4. The Recreation Committee wants to remind all retirees that you can participate in all trips that they sponsor. You have six baseball games, Pistons playoff games, Red Wing hockey games, trips to Cedar Point, and just to many to name. Contact any member of the Recreation Committee for information.

5. The Retirees Chapter will be planning our summer and fall events at the next several meetings. Last year, there were two different retiree retreats to Black Lake available to our retirees as well as many other events.

Union members are encouraged to practice life-long unionism—working for social and economic justice even after they leave the workforce and active union membership. Here are resources to help retirees make important decisions and advocate for justice.

Alliance for Retired Americans
The Alliance for Retired Americans and its members are a voice for retirees and older Americans in national, state and local policymaking. It was launched by a national coalition of AFL-CIO affiliated unions and community-based organizations dedicated to economic and social justice.

Elder Care
More and more working families are facing the challenges of caring for elderly loved ones. Find out what help is available.

Social Security & Medicare
Social Security and Medicare are America’s two most important family protection programs—providing old age and disability income and health care protection to tens of millions of p
eople.

Social Security Online
Some of the things that you can do online: Change your address or telephone number. Get a replacement Medicare Card. Request a Proof of Income letter. Get a letter that verifies your Social Security benefit information. Get a Form 1099/1042S -- Social Security Benefit Statement. Replace the lost, damaged, or missing tax summary of your Social Security benefits for 2005 (not available for SSI). Get a password.
